Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupe Is the Future of the Luxury Car genre
After years of speculation, Mercedes-AMG has officially confirmed its next car to the luxury car world.
The SLS is set to be the company’s first car to be built entirely in the US and will be launched in 2021.
It will have a powertrain made by Mercedes-based subsidiary Mercedes-Benzes and will also be based on the next-generation SLS platform.
The new car will be based around a new 6.0-liter V8 engine that can deliver 300 horsepower (220 kW) and 470 pound-feet (300Nm) of torque, according to a press release from Mercedes-Mazda.
This is the same powertrain that will power the next generation of the Mercedes-Amaras Super Sport and SLS-Class.
The Mercedes-Amphora SLS will be Mercedes-developed, with a production capacity of 100,000 units, with the first car expected to be launched early next year.
The AMG SLS, the world’s first supercar, was announced back in February 2019.
The next-gen SLS comes with a new styling package and is expected to have an engine size of 2.0 liters and a power output of 330 horsepower (225 kW).
The SLE Sport will be the base SLS model and will have more than double the power and torque of the SLE, according a Mercedes spokesperson.
AMG has also confirmed that the SLS SLE is the first of two production models to come with an automatic transmission, and the third to have a six-speed automatic transmission.
AMP, the Mercedes brand’s automotive and engineering unit, is also responsible for the S-Class, which is the successor to the SLL, which was unveiled in 2021, but the company has not announced its own successor.
